EDUCATOR GRANT AWARD

As the local affiliate of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association, the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association strives to promote the welfare of Indiana’s retired teachers, encourage and perpetuate education, and provide community leadership, service, and guidance.

 

To promote strong education and support teachers, the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association established the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Educator Grant Award on October 24, 2007.

 

Purpose: The purpose of the DCRTA Educator Grant Award is to provide funding for a Dearborn County teacher to purchase educational materials and/or supplies for his/her classroom.

 

Selection Process: All Dearborn County teachers are eligible for the grant/award.  He/She may be nominated by an administrator or a colleague from the school in which the nominee is currently teaching, be nominated by a member of the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association, or apply by personal application.

 

Educator Grant Award forms with letter(s) of recommendation must be completed and submitted to the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Grant Award Committee.  The award recipient will be named through a vote of the Dearborn County Retired Teachers Association.

 

Grant Use: Recipient will purchase materials for the classroom and present receipts to the DCRTA Educator Grant Award Committee for reimbursement up to $500 by the designated date.  In addition, the recipient must continue to teach in a Dearborn County School during the school year in which the award is presented.

 

Funding: The funding for the Educator Grant Award will be through DCRTA donations, community donations, memorials, and funeral donations.

2012 Educator Award Presentation Dates

 

March 2, 2012 – The application and letter of recommendation(s) must be received by DCRTA.  Please send application/letter(s) to DCRTA President Jim Pierce, 12462 North Dearborn Road, Sunman, IN  47041,  or to Educator Grant Award Committee Chair Betty Bourquein, 204 Beech Grove Avenue, Batesville, IN 47006.

 

April 20, 2012 – The Grant Award winner will be notified.

 

June 13, 2012 – The Grant Award winner and guest will be honored at the June DCRTA meeting.

 

December 31, 2012 – All receipts must be submitted to the DCRTA for reimbursement.

2011 Educator Grant Award Presentation

 

The 2011 Dearborn County Retired Teachers’ Educator Grant Award was presented on June 15 to Melissa Price Dennis, a first grade teacher at North Dearborn Elementary School.  Price was one of three finalist selected by the Educator Award Committee and voted on by the DCRTA membership at the April 20, 2011, Dearborn County Retired Teachers’ meeting.  Congratulations, Melissa, and we wish you continued success in your teaching career!

 

 

 

2010 Educator Grant Award Presentation

 

On June 16, 2010, Randy Dennis, a South Dearborn Middle School Social Studies teacher, was selected as the winner of the 2010 Dearborn County Retired Teachers’ Educator Award.  Randy was one of four finalists selected by the Educator Award Committee and voted on by the DCRTA membership.  At the August 18, 2010, Dearborn County Retired Teachers’ meeting, Randy was recognized and presented this award.  Congratulations, Randy, and we wish you much success in your teaching career!

2009 Educator Grant Award Presentation

 

On August 19, 2009, Heather Zins, a special education teacher at East Central High, was awarded DCRTA’s first Educator Award.  Zins’ application was one of three finalists’ forms selected by the Educator Award Committee to be reviewed and voted on by the DCRTA membership.  It was with great joy that the DCRTA was able to present this award to Zins.  We wish her much success in her teaching occupation and in working with the students of Dearborn County.
